Outdoorsy Bank Holiday

Last Monday was a bank holiday in the UK – “August Bank Holiday”, which always makes me think of an episode of the Goodies (TV comedy prog back in the 70s), when an island between the Christmas Islands and the Easter Islands was discovered and named August Bank Holiday Island! What actually springs to mind is them singing the national anthem: “God save our August Bank Holiday Island King...” etc (seven syllables on the lowest note instead of one!).

Well anyway, we took a break from attempting to climb Mount Everest (aka tidying the house – which is almost there by the way, and have been to the tip!). It was a lovely day (unusual for a bank holiday) and Darcy had been invited out with a friend for the day so Ben and I decided to do this very outdoorsy thing of going for a walk – like a proper walk that you find in outdoorsy books and websites. The one we went on is called the Discover Downside Walk, is about 5 miles and takes 4 hours and is one the south side of Cobham. There are no cafés on the way so we took sandwiches! How outdoorsy is that!

Well, we discovered places and views that I didn’t know existed! And I’ve lived in Cobham for over 30 years! Also, it is such a glorious time of year to go on a “nature” walk and we saw some spectacularly cool naturey things too.
